Winners 2011

 

The winners of Film Northants 2011 were crowned at a red carpet awards ceremony at Cineworld, Northampton on September 19th. More than 150 people attended the screening which saw five films walk away with trophies out of a total of 12 finalists. Watch all of the winning films here.  


Award: Judges' Choice

 

 

Winner: Catch the Bus

 

Director: Cem Kaymaz-Yildiz

 

Quote: "It was brilliant to win after entering previously. I feel like we have really progressed. I love the community feel of the competition and it feels like it really supports local film makers. It’s something all communities should be looking to do because it's a great encouragement for film makers. This is a massive confidence boost and we really appreciate it. It will look brilliant on our CVs. Winning will definitely help our job prospects whether that be in TV or film.”

 

Award: 1st Public Vote

 

 

Winner: Smoking Kills

 

Director: Dean Twaites

 

Quote: “The quality of entrants was amazing...We are always thinking about what to film next. If they let us we’ll enter it for as long as we can. The judges’ comments were really appreciated, it’s helpful to see how we can improve.”


 

Award: 2nd Public Vote

 

 

Winner: Speechless

 

Director: Adam Mann

 

Quote: “What I loved about it was that it's a local competition for local people which is easy to enter. I’ll definitely be making another one.”

 

Award: 1st Under 16s

 

 

Winner: Iron Man

 

Director: Polebrook Primary School

 

Quotes: Headteacher Hazel Johnson said: “They have been studying Iron Man and doing science work about forces. They’ve been looking at Haynes Manuals and wanted to know what happened to Iron Man after he fell off the cliff and so they created the story.” Myles Hamilton, aged eight,  said: “I found doing the pigeon landing on his head the best bit and I did some of the sound affects as well.” George Mikleburgh, aged eight, said: “I would say I enjoyed the sound effects best. I would say when I was waiting to hear (the award winner announced) I was very sweaty. When they announced it I went really hot and sweaty. I was looking at all of the people – it was just brilliant.”

 

Award: 2nd Under 16s 

 

 

Winner: The Tiger Escapes

 

Directors: Lily-May Pursey, Megan Hill and Robbie Russ, Southbrook Juniors Breakfast Animation Club, Daventry  

 

Quotes: Lily-May said: “My favourite bit when the tiger was climbing out of the tunnel." Robbie said: “We did a lot of practice so it wasn’t that hard. I’d like to make something like the Simpsons.” Megan Hill said: “We thought it was a good opportunity to get involved in.”
